Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten skin. It’s most often used on the face, neck, and under the chin to reduce sagging and improve definition. The ultrasound energy penetrates deep beneath the skin’s surface, heating targeted tissue layers which stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen to gradually firm and lift the skin over time. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure, FDA-cleared to lift and sculpt the upper and lower face and neck. Dr Orla Grimes of Beacon Face and Dermatology is the National Field Clinical Specialist for Ultherapy and has trained numerous practices throughout; Ireland, Uk & Europe in Ultheraphy, meaning our team are the very best when it comes to Ultheraphy.
What Concerns Does It Treat
Ultherapy is successful in addressing sagging brows and hooded eyelids, skin laxity under the chin, loss of jawline definition, and nasolabial folds (smile lines).
What to Expect
- Plan to be in the clinic for about 2.5 hours on the day of treatment
- Your skin is cleaned and a layer of ultrasound gel is applied
- Using ultrasound imaging, we map the structures beneath the skin to pinpoint where to deliver energy
- An applicator delivers focused ultrasound energy to specific depths under the skin’s surface
- You may feel brief bursts of warmth or tingling during treatment
- These sensations reflect collagen-stimulating energy being deposited
- Tiny micro-heating points trigger your body’s natural collagen-building process
- Over time, fresh, stronger collagen forms, gradually lifting and firming the skin
Discomfort Level
Comfort levels can vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the energy is being delivered. We would rate it a between a 5 – 6. We can provide pain relief on the day if required.
Recommended Treatment Plan
Some patients will repeat Ultherapy every 12 – 24 months to maintain results, since the skin naturally continues to age and collagen production slows over time.
Here’s the general guideline:
- Initial course: One full treatment is often enough for mild to moderate laxity.
- Maintenance: Every 12 months for some patients; sometimes every 18–24 months if your skin ages slowly and you maintain collagen well.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Cold sores, acne and other active skin infections
- Skin conditions in the treatment area such as eczema and psoriasis
Complimentary Treatments
- Profhilo – Contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA) that deeply moisturizes the skin, improving softness and plumpness.
- Micro needling – Stimulates collagen and helps improve overall texture of the skin prior to Ultherapy.
- Polynucleotides – These bio stimulators encourage the production of collagen and elastin, which improves skin firmness and elasticity helping the effectives of Ultherapy.
