Thread Vein

North london

The pulse light and laser system are designed to target and destroy unsightly veins which resulted from hereditary, pregnancy, trauma and the normal ageing process.

The appearance of Rosacea also responds very well to this treatment as it reduces the excessive redness in the face. IPL systems operate on the principle of selective photothermolysis in which target vessels are selectively damaged with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Veins which are not necessary to the circulatory system can be removed without causing a health problem.

The pulse light and laser systems are designed to treat veins safely and effectively. The pulse light/laser energy penetrates the vessels and generates heat, resulting in blood coagulation and vessel wall damage. This leads to the collapse of the blood vessels. There is a limit to the size of the vessel that can be effectively treated. Benefits of this treatment include the possible reduction or elimination of superficial veins. The treatment may cause some redness and minor swelling that may persist for one or two days

A topical anaesthetic may be applied to reduce discomfort associated with the treatment. Photographs of the treatment area are recommended for our chart and future comparison.

Possible Risks

Possible risks or discomforts (side effects) may include:
pain, burning, blisters formation, and stinging sensation, infection, pigmentary changes including decrease or increase in skin colour at the site of treatment, scar formation, laser/intense pulsed light indeed ‘cold-sore-like’ blistering, skin eruptions known as ‘herpetic’ skin eruptions at the site of treatment and poor cosmetic outcome. Recurrence of the hair growth at treatment sites is also a possibility. As with all cosmetic procedures, the outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Eye injury due to use of the laser or pulsed light system is a risk to the patient and to the clinician, however safety goggles are provided and must be worn at all times during the treatment.

Pre treatment

You will be requested for your permission to have a photograph taken of the appropriate area so as to monitor the progress of the treatments. A consent form will be provided for you to sign and any questions will be answered. Any signs of scarring or underlying skin disorders such as eczema are identified. If there are any broken areas or pustules, the treatment will be delayed until the area is completely healed.

A patch test will be carried out on the first consultation and treatment may proceed the next week if there is no adverse reaction.

A course of treatments is always necessary due to the nature of skin due to its protective role.

After Care

A soothing after treatment balm is applied to the treated area to help protect the skin following treatment with. A high SPF sun factor is vital to protect the treated area from sun exposure and must be continued for one month post treatment. Tanning after treatment sessions may enhance melanin regeneration, which may result in hyper-pigmentation.
